Yes.
This is what being in control of chords and patterns, bringing it back to a fairly basic, but really wonderful piano arrangement means.
John Legend is of course a master of the pop-meets-soul-piano-song, and uses the exact methods of playing Pop/Chord/Pattern piano from ‘Hack the Piano‘ to build his beautiful piano songs with.
So, for all of you ballad-lovers: a great demonstration and exercise that involves a fair amount of basic and a few not-so-basic Pop-Piano skills.
Copy, learn and REMEMBER: it’s all re-usable.
First video shows the whole song in it's end result version, the lessons that brake the thing down with explanation below. To get the sheets & midi see button below the videos.

is there sheet music for this? I can't seem to find a link and i am DYYYIIIIIING
Hi Kim,
If you're referring to 'classical' sheet music: I don't ever us that and my whole method is built around teaching others to do the same. There are Piano Couture sheets coming up for this song though! They'll probably be available this week.
Cheers, Coen.
Sup! I'm HaiLin and i was wondering where i would find the sheet music.
Hey Hai-Lin!
No 'traditional' sheet music to be found on this website. I never use any. In fact my whole method is build upon and around playing without ever needing sheet music.
However, there currently is a Piano Couture sheet shop in the makings where you can get yourself the whole song in chords images (as used in my tutorial video's) arranged accordingly.
Cheers! Coen
I can't find it? or isn't it ready yet? when will I be able to find it?
No it's not ready yet! Coming up within the week though. Cheers!
I'm struggeling with part 2 of the Chorus. (3 minute)
Is it possible to slow it down a little bit...?
Hi Dorien, I'm not sure what you're referring to, but slowing down the video can sometimes be done with Youtube's player or by using an external video player. Playing it slower yourself is of course a VERY good idea. Make sure you slow it down to a tempo you're comfortable with and first try and play it flawless in that tempo. Hope that helps Dorien!
Cheers, Coen
Thanks a lot. Great stuff.
One small question: I doubt about the Bbadd9 chord. Shouldn't it be named 'Bbmadd9'
Frans
You're welcome Frans! Glad you like it. Indeed you're correct, sorry! Typo from my end there... 🙂
Cheers
hello, I really want to get the sheets, but is there no other way to pay them, because I don't have iDeal or PayPall 🙁 I only have mastercard...
Hi Aline, when you select Paypal as your payment method, you can use your credit card with them to process your order by selecting 'no Paypal account'. Hope this helps!
I couldn't comprehend what you were saying in the first video. You were bouncing all over the place. I think you should have went step by step and said the notes while you were playing them. Thanks though
Hi Liana, thanks for your comment. Yes I agree, the first video wasn't my most structured lesson ever, I wasn't completely focussed when filming that one. I think later in the video the 'structure' is starting to form a little better. Maybe taking close note to the light up keyboard and the chord pictures can help in telling which exact notes to play! My comment for this one is more for understanding the underlaying musical structures and harmonic relationships.
Cheers, Coen.
i cant learn piano if someone else teaches me it goes in one ear ond out the other but it was easy 4 me 2 learn so thanks 🙂

Hey man, I am so glad I found your piano tutorials!! (: I absolutely adore this song, and I am so glad you made such a clear, straight-forward video. I'm glad you encourage people to play around and find their own unique "rendition", rather than just play note-for-note, as I see in alot of other piano tutorials on Youtube. Keep up the great work, I look forward to your other tutorials!!
Thanks for that JC! Glad you like it 🙂 . Cheers, Coen.
Hi I am only 13 and this is the best website I found for tutorials thanks keep up the music
